Getting a newborn to sleep in bassinet?
Hi ladies,
I have a 4 week old newborn, and me and my fiance co-sleep with her, because she hasn't been able to sleep all night in her bassinet. Ok, no worries during the day... I never thought about this when I was pregnant how hard it would be. Bassinet to the cot, now it seems to be going from the bed to the bassinet and then the cot. How do you get a newborn to get use to sleeping in her bassinet at night instead of co-sleeping??
It's hard as they are happiest near you ( I say this as my bub is asleep on me lol)
But try sleeping her in the bassinet with a towel, blanket or shirt that you have had in your bed for a couple of days so it has your scent.
Try puting her in the bassinet when she is starting to show tired signs, and wait by her, patting her gently. This does often take a few attempts, but is highly successful for me. They say that letting your bub fall asleep on you and then putting them down when they're asleep can freak then out a bit as they wake up somewhere different. They liken it to waking up in the bat ( in terms of the shock)
Also, try having some white noise ( TV, radio, white noise machine, washing machine etc) as she most likely won't be able to hear you sleeping and the lack of noise might upset her.
